Martha Lives

Information exchange looked much different when a young, guitarslinging artist named Tommy Niemeyer formed the Accused in Oak Harbor, Wash., in 1981. Letter writing, tape trading and sending copies of local gig flyers to worldwide friends were how underground music fans stayed connected and informed. The Accused used this snail-paced communication network to build a name for their brash metallic hardcore and Niemeyer upped that ante, drawing additional attention to the band by creating Martha Splatterhead a pneumatic-breasted, zombie babe mascot and adorning shirts, envelopes and album covers with her likeness.

Backwoods Bloodbath 2011

Posted by Freddy B. on May 20, 2011

The Accused performs in the shitty cities of the Pacific Northwest on Their "Backwoods BloodBath Tour" Starting June 3, 2011 Gas-up the family 4 x 4 and stock the cooler with cold ones, 'cause The Accused are headin' out to the boonies and they want you to come on out and join 'em! YEEEEE-HAAAAAW!

Beginning June 3rd in Sultan, WA It's the 2011 "Backwoods Bloodbath Tour" featuring The Accused with a variety of local support acts as the band takes their unique and ferocious blend of hardcore punk meets thrashing metal to a few of the less-traveled towns around the Pacific Northwest U.S.

Places where sometimes cousins get-ta-kissin' and there's beer, trucks and fishin'! Having formed on Whidbey Island in 1981, The Accused have always had a commeraderie' for the places deemed "way out" by city folk. They have a kind of kin-ship with places like Arlington and Sultan, as well as a history of tradition and fond memories from places like Richland and Spokane; all of the aforementioned locations being places The Accused will visit on this, their first official tour since 2009. With seasoned confidence and freshly-rejuvenated energy, The Accused are eager to splatter the stage once again, so the "Backwoods Bloodbath Tour" wastes no time and promises to be a wicked display of the band's trademark imagery, and influential hybrid punk / metal sound. Honorable mention, too, must be given to 2011 marking the THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY of the band's inception, a plataeu reached by few other bands, and one The Accused plan to embrace on this much-anticiapated series of live performances throughout the region.

The Accused will perform an assortment of tracks from their lengthy back catalog of releases for this tour as well as a few from their most recent release, the 2009 Southern Lord Records album titled, "The Curse of Martha Splatterhead" (CD and limited edition Vinyl 12" LP), including the song "Hemline" from the band's recently-released splatter movie-inspired music video, which is showing now on YouTube and elsewhere.
